hack your health with this simple trick

I realized a long time ago that the way to get people to change their habits is to show them how their habits are affecting them in real time.

Because if you know that something is hurting you or making you feel bad, do you keep doing it?

Of course not!

But too many people don't use this simple concept to hack their health. I think its because they tend to put too much focus on the BIG picture or the BIG Goal too much.

Let me explain:

If I were to ask you what your health goal is right now, you might say something like: " To lose weight." or "To fix my digestion."

Which ARE good goals to have, but they are TOO BIG to think about right now. And thinking too big can become overwhelming and out of reach and not sustainable.

Try this approach instead:

My client, "Janice" came to me with the big goal of losing weight. And in our conversation, she also mentioned that she was tired most mornings, so I asked her what her typical breakfasts were. She said that she usually just grabbed a bagel on her way out the door.

Instead of mapping out an entire new day for her, with a new meal plan, exercise plan...the whole works for weight loss. I did this instead:

I suggested she try eating eggs for breakfast instead of her typical bagel, to help her feel more energized in the morning. (She decided to meal prep a bunch early in the week to save her time). The next day, she ate her eggs and not the bagel.

Later that day, she texts me and said she couldn't believe how much more energy she had.

So the next day, she did it again and the next day again, and for the rest of the week had amazing energy every morning and realized that her productivity at work was also higher, and decided to keep going.

A healthier breakfast was just hacked by just wanting more energy and productivity in the morning. Cause the logical part of her brain was like "i prefer to have energy, so I will make this choice." And it was easy to do because her mornings actually improved and it was IMMEDIATELY FELT.

But in the background: HER BIG GOAL is now ONE STEP CLOSER, and it involved a very simple choice and one that was easy to make because she just wanted more energy in the morning and saw how easy it was to achieve it.

THAT is hacking your health and AUTOMATING it so it becomes easy.

She didn't have to be disciplined or motivated. She didn't need to overall her entire life in one swoop. When she saw that she could have better and more productive mornings happening in real time, it made the choice easy to make and sustain.

Its a habit now.

Lesson

Put the focus more into how foods make you feel today, in the moment, then you will make more healthier choices automatically.

Which will get you closer to your goals much faster.
