anxiety and inflammation

Hi Reader!

How was (is?) you summer! I took a much needed break this past August (even on social media! which honestly, felt nice). I wanted to be able to relax before fall and school craziness began.

And did it begin.

This past week has had my anxiety on 100%. But it was another problem that totally caught me off guard.....

My body was super bloated and puffy.

At first, I couldn't understand why I felt this way. Nothing has really changed about my eating or exercising routine. In fact, I have been eating better these past few weeks.

But this morning I figured it out.

Its anxiety and stress induced.

We hear all the time how bad stress is for our health. But I think many of us forget (or don't recognize) that it can also manifest physically too. And that can look differently for everyone.

Physical changes due to stress:

  • Extra inflammation
  • Acne and other skin flare ups
  • Digestion issues (or sudden change in digestion)
  • Bloating (extra body weight)
  • Hair loss or brittle nails

This past week, my stress and anxiety have been on 100%. Like waking up and my chest already feels tight. Poor sleep, irritability. The whole gambit.

(Mostly related to both me and my kids starting school and just making sure everything is in order. My schedule is drastically different (I am teaching 2 new courses), my 3 yo starting preschool (at a new school!) and my 5 yo is starting kindergarten (new schedule!). )

I get anxiety mostly because I am in constant fear of forgetting something important (can anyone relate?). Especially when there are a lot of things happening at once.

Until today, it didn't really occur to me that my sudden weight gain was related, until I stopped and checked in with myself.

So yesterday, I took control and I "ate the frog" if you will. I spent the morning just doing everything that was causing my anxiety. All the tough stuff that I was probably putting off and getting it all done.

This morning I woke up feeling the calmest I have been all week and my jeans fit better!

This is my reminder to you to check in with yourself, if you feel like there are new (or different) physical symptoms popping up. What is going on in your world?

That sudden weight gain might not be what you think it is, or that massive flare up could be because of something that is going on in your life that you need to deal with.

I specialize in helping people with these problems in a holistic way. I am another "tool in your wellness toolbox" to better symptom management, weight loss, stress, and anxiety.
